Nick de With registered as TÜV FS Expert Automation

TÜV SÜD has acknowledged the experience and skills of  Nick de With in the field of Functional Safety (PL and SIL) in automation. Mr. De With is founder of Functional Safety Consultants Netherlands (FUSACON B.V.) and since 26 March 2020 he is registered as TÜV SÜD Functional Safety Expert in Automation with ID. TA20011855. The TÜV SÜD Functional Safety Certification Program (FSCP) allows you to be certified as an expert in functional safety. There are 3 levels of personal certification:

- Level 1: FS Engineer IEC 61508
- Level 2: FS Professional IEC 61508
- Level 3: FS Expert IEC 61508

For level 3,  at least a Bachelor's degree is required as well as ten years of professional practice in the field of functional safety in the automation industry. To this end, a number of case studies must be handed over to TÜV SÜD and you must have demonstrable competencies in communicating functional safety. The latter can be done by demonstrating publications, dissertations, training (as a coach) and membership of FS committees.

List of certified persons of TÜV SÜD

After passing the exam, participants receive a certificate of the qualification obtained and are added to the list of certified persons on the TÜV SÜD website: see https://bit.ly/2yA3ZPa.

Of the 3871 TÜV SÜD worldwide certified persons (on 6 May 2020), only 31 are qualified as experts. De With has now reached the highest level. At Siemens, he is now an instructor for the training of TÜV functional safety professional (level 2): see https://sie.ag/2YJyOLU. In addition, he has been giving various courses for many years in the field of CE marking, risk assessment, machine safety at various training institutes.

Member of standards committees

De With has been active in the field of Functional Safety since 1994 and started at a supplier of safety components. He became a member of the Dutch standards committee NEC 44 for the electrical safety of machines in 1996, which also includes the EN-IEC 60204 standard. De With recognised the importance of international collaboration in this area and became a member of IEC TC 44/WG7, the international working group for IEC 62061 SIL for machinery, in 1999. In 2006 he was certified as TÜV Functional Safety Engineer and in 2017 as TÜV Functional Safety Professional and now as TÜV Functional Safety Expert. This level 3 certification allows him to perform Functional Safety Audits in automation projects. The other advantage is that he can now give official training courses for Functional Safety in Automation and take exams under the TÜV SÜD FSCP programme.
